Training

We have delivered training for many large public and private sector organisations. The focus has been on working with organisations to provide training to management teams, and staff and to train people within the organisations to enable them to train more staff directly.

Partnership Working

We continue to be an active member of the LGBT+ Consortium Network with representation for the following groups:

  • LGBT Leaders Network;
  • Trans Organisations Network (TON)
  • Safeguarding Working Group; and
  • Training Providers Network.

We are also working with other partners in the following areas:

  • Strategy working group
  • Policy working group
  • Research working group

Ban on Conversion Therapy Consortium;

National Voices; and

Equally Ours.

We reviewed the BAGIS Recommended Minimum Standards for Provision and Commissioning of Gender Affirming Care in the UK. The standards have now been published and provide us with a template for expected gender affirming health care provision for trans and gender diverse people.

The Trustees have committed to ensuring that GIRES responds to the last Government reports including publishing our response to the Cass Review on our website.

We are taking every opportunity to engage with the new Government, including signing letters to Minsters and meeting with Wes Streeting, the Minster of Health and Social Care, to discuss the impact of the puberty blocker ban on new patients.

In addition, we have responded to and published our submissions for the following:

NHS Constitution: 10-year review

Government RSHE consultation

Submission to the Department of Health and Social Care’s proposal to make the arrangements set out in the emergency order regarding puberty blockers permanent

Service Specification 1719: Gender Identity Services for Adults (non-surgical services)

Working with Trans Healthcare Coalition as part of the teams preparing a response to the Review of adult gender dysphoria services being led by Dr Levy.

GIRES The Year Ahead

The Trustees and Staff plan to undertake the following activities in the coming year:

  • Recruit new Trustees to the Board
  • Review our e-learning to ensure it remains relevant and reflects changes in legislation
  • To continue with our training provision
  • To review and update GIRES website
  • To continue to develop our research capability
  • To continue to respond to Government consultations
  • To continue to be at the forefront of change with our partners
  • To seek new opportunities for projects to deliver our Priority Themes
  • To start planning how we will celebrate 30 years of the Charity in 2027.
