Collaboration between GIRES and trans*formation (07/09/16)
The Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES) and trans*formation have entered into a collaborative arrangement that will enable both organisations to provide better support for trans, non-binary and non-gender people.
GIRES is a volunteer operated membership charity that, in collaboration with the other groups in its field, hears, helps, empowers and gives a voice to trans and gender non-conforming individuals, including those who are non-binary and non-gender, as well as their families. GIRES:
- Uses evidence from these individuals’ lived experiences, combined with scientific research into gender identity development, to educate all those who are able to improve their wellbeing.
- Contributes to policy development regarding equality and human rights for these individuals, especially in healthcare.
- Delivers training, e-learning and information to public and private sector organisations, many of which are Corporate Members of the charity, for instance when a trans or gender non-conforming employee or student needs support.
trans*formation’s mission is: To undertake activities to end discrimination and promote the welfare of trans* and non-binary people in the UK. Primarily aimed at people in the work environment. Its Aims are:
- To eradicate the discrimination of trans* and non-binary people in the UK within 10 years.
- To ensure the levels of unemployment, self-harm, suicide and homelessness are equal to or better than the national average.
- To create an environment where trans* people are valued for their authenticity and journey.
The collaboration between the two organisations will enable:
- An effective combination of their respective skills and experience
- Joint development of services, including policy preparation and training for the corporate sector
- Sharing administrative and website costs
