NHS Gender Identity Clinics
Updated 23rd October 2024
England
Listed below are the adult Gender Identity Clinics (GICs) in England. Patient’s have the right to choose which of the clinics they are referred to, no matter where they live (Interim NHS England Gender Dysphoria Protocol and Guideline 2013/14). Some Gender Clinics will accept self-referrals these are marked with * below. Gender Clinics not accepting self-referrals will require your GP to refer you.
If you are under 17 you should be referred to a gender service via your GP. The GP may say that you have to be seen by the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service also known as CAMHS who can also refer you to a gender clinic.
Further information along with a useful selection of other information around transgender issues can be found on the NHS Choices website.
Cheshire and Merseyside Adult Gender Identity Collaborative
CMAGIC is one of three gender dysphoria services newly located within the primary care and sexual health setting. The service is commissioned by NHS England, with other networked pilot provision being in Greater Manchester and London.
Individuals eligible for the CMAGIC service:
- Aged 17+ and registered with a GP in Cheshire and Merseyside
- On a waiting list for an established national gender incongruence service having been referred prior to 31 October 2020 and not having attended their first appointment.

East of England Gender Service
The Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health Network (NCTH) launched a new national pilot, the East of England Gender Service, in June 2021 for people who live in the East of England.
The service will see patients aged 17+ who are already on a waiting list at one of the 7 NHS England commissioned Gender Identity Clinics (GIC) and whose referral was received by the GIC prior to the 28th of February 2021. So, at this time East of England Gender Service is not accepting new referrals.
