The Intercom Trust is a community-led lesbian gay bisexual and trans community resource in the South West of England, founded in 1997.
Intercom provides confidential help, support and advocacy around homophobic and transphobic prejudice, crime and discrimination, and the other issues that affect Trans and LGB people in the South West.
We also supports local independent grassroots groups and helps to develop local LGBT communities.
Intercom provides professional training and consultancy, and provides community-led advisory and scrutiny resources, for local government, the NHS, police, etc.
In Dorset and Wiltshire, we can provide face-to-face support, but only on crime-related issues.
Many of our Trans service-users are adults. Over the last few years Intercom has also found so many Trans or Gender Questioning young people and their families approaching our Helpline that we have established a very positive working relationship with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, who are now holding regular local clinics for young South West clients, setting up local Family Days, etc. We are also supporting Parents of Trans children who are looking to set up a local social support and networking group.
