Gender Community Lending Library

Gender Community Lending Library is a non-profit, transgender postal library seeking to increase access to trans books, promote trans research, and engage trans people with their history through heritage projects. The library is completely free to use, and anyone in the UK can borrow a book - whether they are cisgender, transgender or questioning.

Our collection ranges from memoirs, to academic texts, to fiction, and is constantly expanding, while our current heritage project focuses on how 19th century British newspapers reported on gender and sexual variance, and is delivered through talks, articles and an interactive Google map.

We also offer a penpal scheme connecting adult trans people across the UK. Writing letters is a creative, low pressure way to develop new friendships, and we facilitate this while centering participants' comfort and privacy.
