Information
QwesT FTM UK is a new charity that amalgamates both the FTM Network and Western Boys into one organisation. QwesT will continue to provide the services and events previously offered and managed by the FTM Network and Western Boys.
The trustees are thrilled to welcome Stephen Whittle OBE as patron, in recognition of his outstanding work in the field of rights for Trans people and as founder of the FTM Network.
-QwesT FtM UK aims to continue the following activities: -Biennial FTM Conference -Yearly Summer camp -Biennial hostelling weekend away -Monthly meetings in Taunton -The editing and publication of Boys Own 3 – 4 time a year -Providing the advice line
Stephen Whittle founded the FTM Network in 1989 in order to provide mutual support and advice. He started the precedent of a biennial get-together, regular hostelling weekends and the publication of a magazine – Boys Own – to provide much needed contact and advice to FTMs in a world before emails and the internet.
Western Boys was founded in 2002 by Steve Leather, Dan Hooper, George Burrows and Jon to provide a focal point for FTMs in the West Country and South Wales. Beginning in humble surroundings with just 3 – 4 members at the monthly meeting, the group soon attracted in excess of 15 on a regular basis. The summer camp was established and over time Western Boys gained sufficient experience and started to hold a 2 yearly conference in the West.
Over the years Western Boys has grown significantly and the support to the FTM Network increased. It has become necessary for Western Boys to take on registered charitable status in order to progress the needs of the national FTM community.
The name QwesT FtM is derived from Q for those questioning their identity or are Gender Queer; WEST recognises that the base continues from the West Country. FTM UK acknowledges the legacy so long provided by Stephen Whittle and the FTM Network.
