Information for trans people
New Treatment Guidelines for Gender Dysphoria Published by the British Medical Colleges.
The provision of care for patients experiencing gender dysphoria is an excellent example of an area where multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care is not only good practice but ensures that a wide choice of treatment pathways are offered, tailored to the needs of the individual patient. This intercollegiate document provides guidelines which we hope will optimise the clinical care pathways for patients who may need to access several medical and allied health professionals here.
GIRES has prepared three publications for the Department of Health (DOH) to help trans people. GIRES has also produced other guides covering surgery options and trans service users' rights regarding medical care as well as separate guides to surgery for trans men and for trans women. There are two other DOH documents, one a guide for NHS managers, the other a guide for trans people, and their loved ones, who experience bereavement. All these booklets can be downloaded by clicking the appropriate image below. Other information can be accessed using the menu on the left.
GIRES can provide printed copies of its own version of ”Transgender experiences – information and support“, from which the Department of Health version was derived. To order, please contact the charity.
