Welcome to The 7th strand - promoting transgender equality. This is an online training and development resource originally developed by  the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) with generous support from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC),  Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) and the Forum for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in post school education.

LSIS sadly closed in July 2013. Since then the online module has been hosted on the Foundation online learning website, where you can still use the module and work through to completion and a receiving a certificate.

In order to use the module you will need to create a user account with Foundation online, which is free. Below are the steps needed to be able to do so.

The Foundation online website can be found at:

Upon arriving at the website you will see the following home page:

Foundationonline home page

You will need to click the window labelled Equality and Diversity which will take you to the page below and a list of courses.

Scrolling down the list you will see a entry for course entitled Trans-gender equality: the 7th strand.

Clicking on the link for the course will take you to a screen that will allow you to create an account on the website which is free for this module.

In the screen shown above you will have a set of actions to complete which will include creating an account where you will be asked to create a username and password and to fill out some details in a profile for yourself.

Once completed a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you have chosen to associate with your account. In this email will be a link back to the foundation website that will confirm your details and log you into the site.

Once in you will be able to use the module.

There is an assessment module to test you once you have completed the learning module which if and when you pass with a sufficient percentage will allow you to print off a completion certificate.

If you have any suggestions that you feel would increase the value of the resource, please contact us by email.
