Meeting notes, AGM 2005

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE
GENDER IDENTITY RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY


On Sunday 18th September 2005
At Melverley, The Warren, Ashtead, Surrey, KT21 2SP

Janeen Willis welcomed members and guests to the meeting. 34 members and 7 guests attended. 42 members sent apologies for absence and 7 proxy votes were received by post.

  1. Appointment of the Executive Committee

    All existing members of the Executive Committee (Nic Bray, Janine Elliot, Jennifer Gradidge, Bernard Reed, Terry Reed, David Willis, Janeen Willis and Susie Withers) were re-elected.

    Proposed by: Bernard Reed, Seconded by: Frank Roberts
    There were no objections and 7 proxy votes in favour.

  2. Approval of the minutes of last year's Annual General Meeting

    Proposed by: Rose Donovan, Seconded by: Nic Bray
    There were no objections and 7 proxy votes in favour.

  3. Review of the charity's past year and approval of its report and accounts

    A brief overview of the Annual Report and Accounts was given.

    Donald Yule, Independent Examiner advised on the need to report carefully on restricted funds (to be able to demonstrate clearly that individual grants are being used solely for the specified purposes). He also explained that the apparent loss in the accounts demonstrates that the reserves are being used (as Charity funds should be).

    Acceptance of the Annual Report and Accounts was:
    Proposed by: Chris Gidden, Seconded by: Rose Donovan
    There were no objections and 7 proxy votes in favour.

  4. Appointment of Honorary Independent Examiner

    Donald Yule was thanked for examining the accounts this year, and for his invaluable advice.

    Donald agreed to act as independent examiner for GIRES again next year.

  5. Dr Alex Blustin gave a presentation on an information booklet now available for F2Ms
  6. James Caspian gave a presentation on his research in China & Bangkok
  7. Book by Alice Purnell, GENDYS, "Transexed and Transgendered People - A Guide"
  8. Close of meeting, tea, and social discussions.

    Thanks were given to Terry and Bernard for their hospitality.
