GIRES at WPATH 21st Biennial Symposium
Three members of the GIRES team represented the charity at the World Professional Association for Transgender Health in Norway.
The charity was very proud to be able to present its prestigious annual award to members of the Endocrine Society Task Force in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, recognising their achievement in producing the “Guidelines on the Endocrine Treatment of Transsexual Persons”.
The GIRES team presented a total of five papers at the conference, which included presentations by Bernard Reed on medical care for gender variant adolescents and transphobic bullying in schools. The presentation by Terry Reed on the literature that GIRES developed for the Department of Health was rewarded with a standing ovation. The papers on the prevalence and growth of the transsexual population in the UK presented by Bernard Read and Stephenne Rhodes were also very well received; Stephenne's paper was noted as the only presentation at the conference containing mathematical formulae!
